JH Butcher & Co used different printing techniques throughout the century, changing and adapting with the times, originally mainly using litho printing, and then moving mainly to silk screen printing.
During our project, Dave Elder, one of the artists previously employed by JH Butcher & Co, showed us the painstaking hand painting required, using a magnifying glass and usually in various layers.
Pioneering and at the forefront of printing techniques, JH Butcher specialised in everything from transfers for vehicles and sports equipment to ceramic transfers, before the decline of the printing industry. Many well-known brand names were supplied.
